Founded in 2005 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to create a focal point for women artists from the Gulf, Lahd Gallery soon became a well-known exhibition space representing exclusively MENASA (Middle East, North Africa & South Asia) contemporary art throughout the last decade. With an office in Riyadh & London artists are now exposed to an international market using an online e-gallery, as well as yearly international pop venues, fairs and events all over the world.
Lahd Gallery’s artist Tuğberk Selçuk produced an art performance on the night referring to the popular Snow White’s fairy tale by underlining the undeniable abundance of images, objects, performances that surround us everyday. Did Snow White – and art itself – fall asleep because of the poisonous effect of this fulsomeness, or is this the consequence of the strong emotional reaction activated by the exposure to art that Stendhal famously described? This is left to the viewer to decide.
The Auction Room hosted Lahd Gallery, in celebration of their 10th Anniversary promoting emerging artist from the MENASA region. The auction was online-only and final bidding took place on this site on Wednesday 14th October at 2pm UK time. All works were on exhibition at the Salon de Lahd event on Saturday 10th October 2015 at Kent House Knightsbridge.
